Week 10: Presentation Week (2)

During this unit, I have developed a number of skills that I can say I can actively utilize in my newer practices. although I have found some easier than others, I am confident that the skills taught to me during this unit will definitely be used in my newer practices.

During the first weeks, we worked on our musical analytical skills and learned that a track can be analyzed through multiple lenses, this has provided me with many different ways in which I can read/break a track down, and this will in the future help with my production, in terms of arrangement and reason for adding specific detail or texture.

what I struggled with in this unit was the Week 7 VCR rack session, although this had built some of my basic understanding on oscillation, I had a hard time remembering each oscillator function. this is something that I aim to improve on during my spare time to further my essential production skills.

During the citation session, we were guided on how to write effective pieces of writing while correctly utilizing information from other sources to strengthen our work. i am to take the skills taught to us during that session and develop them even more in my present/future work.

through the exploration of other music producer’s styles and production techniques, I can say that this has given me the opportunity to work in a workflow to which I am not used, this has allowed me to stay inspired and produce new sounds of my own. something I would struggle with when creating music in my own time is art block. the introduction of some of these production methods such as VCR rack and Akai sampling has shown me that the foundation for a piece of music does not always have to be the same.
